I’m Dr. Laurence E. Torpey, a board-certified Family Physician with over 25 years of experience. Over time, I’ve grown deeply disheartened by the direction of modern medicine. Today’s primary care system too often reduces physicians to gatekeepers—referring patients to specialist after specialist—rather than true caregivers. In large health systems, doctors are pressured to prioritize volume over value, and patients are treated as “throughput” in a hospital-driven model. In 2020, I had to close my previous clinic, Torpey Family Medicine, after five years due to unsustainable insurance reimbursement—even while working over 100 hours a week.
